Richard Johnson Elementary School
The 26,850 SF Metlakatla Elementary School Major Maintenance Renovation included repairs, upgrades, reconfiguration of classroom spaces, and extensive renovation as well as site, structural, mechanical, electrical and kitchen upgrades. The project was designed and constructed using a team-build CM/CG contract in phases with consideration for climate constraints and the school calendar. The initial phase focused on exterior and structural repairs and school-wide hazmat abatement. Following, the south wing of the school received extensive interior repairs. Late in the project, additional funding from other sources was received by the District, which allowed for the replacement of playground equipment, a new preschool classroom and turnkey FF&E.
