Romig Middle School CTE Addition/Renovation
Kumin provided concurrent design and construction administration services on the West High School/Romig Middle School campus in Anchorage, Alaska. These projects renovated and added additional shops, classrooms and learning labs for the Career Technical Education (CTE) program facilities at both schools, enabling the CTE programs to keep pace with emerging industry trends and nationwide standards for CTE education.
The Romig Middle School CTE Addition/Renovation adds Applied Technology, Family Consumer Science, Business classrooms and labs in 8,530 SF of new space, and renovates another 1,928 SF of existing space within the school. Other spaces and design features include a school store, loading and facility storage areas, and connection to the school's play fields.
Kumin worked with end-users and School District staff to reconcile user desires with District standards, Ed Specs and funding, determining the program for design and construction, and conducted multiple Value Engineering sessions. The West and Romig projects required intensive project management and leadership commitment to public process and outreach, including numerous concept presentations.
